How To Argue That Open Source Software Is Secure?

How is this fair? How can Microsoft get away with these obvious anti-competitive tactics?

I’ve looked at the Linux Kernal code and I can tell you that any hole in the code is patched very quickly (it only takes one person to say there is a security hole and it is patched in less then 48 hours). You can’t say that about security holes in Windows. They can be left open for year (sometimes longer) because they think if people can’t see their code, they won’t know all the crappy security holes there are. It is bad programming, dishonest business, and now bully tactic marketing. I’m so disgusted.

I am sorry but I found that quite surprising. Now bully tactic marketing. Just take a look at the anti trust cases ongoing at the moment against Microsoft. They have been bullies from the earliest days of packaging built in software to prevent outside competition. The most recent was the lowering of specs for Vista to keep Intel happy. The one consolation is that with the cut price netbooks on the market with Linux preinstalled at last we may see some healthy competition. Penguins rule ok.

How can I incorporate social media into my small business marketing effort?

by admin Posted in Facebook Marketing

What are some ways to use Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites to spread the word about my business?

Great question! Social Media falls into a larger umbrella called "Inbound Marketing." Traditionally marketing would be 1) cold calls/ telemarketing 2) print marketing such as magazines or newspapers 3) radio advertising 4) TV advertising 5) outdoor advertising. The before mentioned techniques would be labeled as "Outbound Marketing."

50 years ago companies like P&G, McDonald’s, and Pfizer built their brand with these techniques. The problem with outbound marketing today is: consumers have DVRs so they do not watch TV commercials; consumers have iPods so I don’t listen to the radio; consumers subscriptions rates to magazines and newspapers are near extinction; and consumers have learned to ignore "interruption marketing" such as telemarketing through services like caller ID.

Newer companies within the last 10 years such as Google, Facebook, and Amazon have used Inbound Marketing. Using Social Media will give you leverage to compete with bigger brands and with bigger budgets. Here is how:

Create Profiles on Social Media Sites: Although there are many social network sites it is best to get your feet wet on 1) Facebook 2) Twitter and 3) LinkedIn.

Facebook:
Create a Fan Page for your business. Click on this link http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php and follow the setup instructions.

Twitter:
Create an account by navigating to https://twitter.com/signup. Follow the instructions to setup your account.

LinkedIn:
Create a personal account and a company page. To create a personal account go to https://www.linkedin.com/secure/register?trk=hb_join and enter in the appropriate fields. To create a company page make sure you have your personal account created and verified and then click on this link http://www.linkedin.com/companies?didentcompy=.

What’s Next
In general listen. See what your target audience is talking about, and then after you understand add value by sharing your thoughts. Below are a few specific examples:

Twitter:
You have 140 characters. Be short and link back to more information on your website or blog. By linking back to your website you create traffic and allow your site to be indexed by search engines. Both are good.

Facebook:
Pose questions. Share resources that your target audience would find of value. Think of your Facebook Fan Page like a forum.

LinkedIn:
Answer questions posted by your target audience. This will give you "expertise" which is rewarded with green stars in the category your answer was selected as the best answer. Link your blog to your company page. By adding your blog to your company page your LinkedIn page will share your latest blog post with the professional community.

I hope that helps, and if you have any questions feel free to connect with me on Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/adam.root) or LinkedIn (http://www.linkedin.com/in/adammroot).

In addition I have listed a few resources to help get you going below:
1. http://www.getawebsite.com This is a great resource to easily build your website, and have a built in blog.

2. http://www.agencyentourage.com Social Media marketing agency that I work for that specializes in social media. Our blog has several articles with free resources.

Good luck

My web visitors are leaving my site within seconds and destroying my PPC budget. How can I troubleshoot this?

by admin Posted in PPC Marketing

Hello,
I’m marketing a site through Yahoo PPC and have been getting a lot of traffic, but all visitors leave the site within a few seconds. My landing page analyzes out with a download time of 7.68 seconds/56k connection (using www.websiteoptimization.com ).
I’m using content marketing geo targeted for Kentucky only.

I have software allowing me to see visitors in real time. Visitors leave within 4-5 seconds – consistently. This is destroying my daily budget within 30-50 minutes everyday (around 75 clicks). The page should load fine, so I can’t see why everyone would leave before even trying to read it, as it is directly related to the PPC ad. I’m wondering if this could be click fraud.

The page is related to an Annuity product with a 10% Premium Bonus.

My ad says:
Annuities – Ky Residents
Protect and grow your retirement.
Earn up to 10% Premium Bonus.
http://www.kyannuities.com/new_bonusgold.php).

Any help is appreciated.
I made a typo when I posted the page address. The correct address is: http://www.kyannuities.com/new_bonusgold.php
CONTENT MARKETERS BEWARE! - I discovered the referral url’s of the sites that were generating my "3-4 second" traffic. NONE of these sites were related to the keywords that I was bidding on, and thus an investigation is underway. In fact, all of the referral URL’s shown for the traffic in question, are also displaying other Yahoo ads that are completely unrelated to the "content" on their pages. All of these ads on these referral url pages are for expensive keywords. I am convinced they are using either a tunneling browser or software to create fake ip addresses and generate false "impressions" to the Yahoo system. This gives them the ability to "clickity click click" ALL DAY LONG, while draining the accounts of unsuspecting content marketers. If you are currently doing content marketing, I suggest that you dig into your log files and take a closer look at your "traffic". You are probably being robbed.

Your landing page drop-off rate is high because the page is designed and written for reading off-line. Usibility studies show that users do not ‘read’ web pages they scan them. Not only that they need to find what they are looking for in the first fraction of a second.

On a landing page if you are explaining, you are losing http://www.seo-blog.com/first-impressions.php

Use headings and bulleted lists http://www.seo-blog.com/text.php

In common words,"Viral Marketing" means "getting other people to willingly spread your message for you."
"The message spreads from person to person like a virus. When this happens,it is referred to as your message"going viral".
It relies heavily on word of mouth advertising, when someone sees and reads your services or offers and tell about this to their friends or family,
and they will tell to their relatives and when it happens,
imagine how much traffic will your website gain and what will be your profit.

Why should we use "Viral Marketing"?.

Give me your opinion insights and summary or how you understand this..?

Reality check.

The philippines has good sound laws but corrupt political influences always delay the implementation of these laws.

By the time these laws are enforced, they become so obsolete that another law must be passed (just like the politicians who regularly pass gas - i.e. fart through their mouth).
